The Quicurl promise

A real wash day, in about 25 minutes.

The Quicurl 3-step routine was built to be easy, effective, clean and quick. Here is what a real wash day looks like with curls and coils, from rinse to styled. Between washes, the Care & Refresh Mist keeps definition going without re-washing.

  1. 10 to 5 min

    Rinse and soak

Soak hair fully under warm water for at least a minute. Wet curls and coils tangle less and need less product.

  2. 25 to 12 min

    Shampoo properly

Massage Quicurl Hydrating Shampoo into the scalp in small circles. Work it through the lengths, then rinse fully so no residue is left behind.

  3. 312 to 20 min

    Cream and detangle

Apply Curl & Coil Cream to damp hair in 4 sections. Finger-detangle first, then comb gently from ends to roots. Take your time, this is where definition starts.

  4. 420 to 25 min

    Style your way

Finger twists, prayer-hand clamping, scrunching upward, or a soft brush-through. Pick what your child's curls and coils love, then let them air-dry.

Between washes, a quick spritz of Care & Refresh Mist revives shape and softness, no re-washing needed.

Styling ideas

Make their natural pattern shine.

Every curl and coil pattern likes a slightly different touch. These simple styling moves work on your child's damp hair right after Curl & Coil Cream. Try one with them, mix two, and notice what their hair loves most.

For curls

Wavy, loose and springy curls

Best for 2c to 3c patterns that love bounce and movement.

  • Finger twists. Take a small section of your child's hair, twirl it around your finger from root to tip. Defines their curls one by one for a soft, polished look.
  • Scrunch upward. Cup their curls in your palm and gently push them up toward the scalp. Encourages bounce and tighter curl shape.
  • Plopping. Lay their curls onto a cotton t-shirt or microfibre cloth, gather and tie at the crown for 10 to 15 minutes. Less frizz, more definition while they finish breakfast.
  • Mini twist-outs or bantu knots. Twist 6 to 10 chunky sections at bedtime, or wind them into little bantu knots. Unravel in the morning for stretched, defined curls that hold for days.
For coils

Tight, springy, full-bodied coils

Best for 4a to 4c patterns that love moisture and gentle shaping.

  • Prayer-hand clamping. Place a section of your child's hair between flat palms and press gently down the length. Smooths product through every coil without disturbing the pattern.
  • Brush through with product. A soft boar-bristle or wide detangling brush, used on their damp cream-loaded hair, clumps coils together for a defined wash-and-go.
  • Two-strand twists. Divide their hair into sections and twist two strands together from root to tip. Great as a finished style, or unravel later for fluffy twist-outs.
  • Bantu knots, plaits or chunky braids. Easy protective styles that keep your child's coils tucked in, lock in moisture, and unravel into beautiful stretched waves the next day.
Whatever you pick, finish with a satin pillowcase or bonnet at bedtime. It is the single biggest difference between a great wash day and a frizzy next-morning.
Make wash day fun

Activities that turn wash day into play time.

Tested by real South African parents. Pick one or two, rotate them, and watch the tears disappear. No screens needed.

Wash day playlist

Build a short playlist of their favourite songs. When the music stops, wash day is done. It gives kids a clear finish line.

Story time together

Tell a made-up story, or let them retell their favourite book while you wash. The bathroom becomes a little stage.

Bath crayons and sticker scenes

Washable bath crayons or window stickers turn the tub into a creative zone while conditioner soaks in.

The bubble challenge

Challenge them to keep a bubble in the air with their breath while you rinse. Distraction plus giggles.

Curl and coil mirror moment

End every wash day with a mirror moment so they can see their soft, defined curls and coils. Confidence is part of the routine.

Visible timer

Set a kitchen timer they can see. Kids cope better when they know exactly how long wash day will take.

For parents new to curls and coils

Your hair doesn't have to be curly to raise a curly or coily kid beautifully.

Curls and coils behave differently to straight hair. They need more moisture, less brushing, and a whole lot of gentleness. These six rules cover most of what you need.

Try the 3-step routine
  • Moisture is the rule

Straight hair tolerates dryness. Curls and coils do not. If in doubt, add water, then a leave-in.

  • Never brush curls and coils dry

Always detangle on damp, conditioned hair. Use fingers first, then a wide-tooth comb. Start at the ends and work upward.

  • Avoid sulphates and silicones

Sulphates strip moisture. Silicones build up and dull curls and coils. Look for 'sulphate-free' on the bottle. Every Quicurl product is.

  • Sleep on satin

A satin pillowcase or bonnet stops friction overnight. You will skip half of the next morning's detangling battle.

  • Refresh, don't re-wash

Between washes, spritz curls and coils with the Quicurl Care & Refresh Mist to revive shape and softness. Washing every day strips moisture and creates frizz.

  • Praise the curls and coils

Kids pick up on how you talk about their hair. Celebrate the texture out loud. It shapes how they see themselves.

DIY and at home

Optional extras for curious parents.

The Quicurl routine is complete on its own. These extras are for parents who want to experiment and build hair love at the roots level with their kids, whether that is a homemade gel, a scalp massage, a soothing pre-wash detangle, or a budget-friendly oil from the shelf. If you are looking for an oil, gel or detangler, start here.

DIY, 15 min

Flaxseed curl and coil gel

  1. 1You will need 2 Tbsp whole flaxseeds, 1 cup of water, a small pot, a fine sieve or a clean stocking, and a glass jar with a lid.
  2. 2Bring the water to a gentle boil, add the flaxseeds, and simmer on low for 5 to 7 minutes. Stir constantly. When the mixture coats the back of your spoon like a light, runny gel, take it off the heat.
  3. 3Strain immediately while it is still hot through the sieve or stocking into your jar. Work quickly because it thickens as it cools and becomes very hard to strain.
  4. 4Let it cool to room temperature. Apply a coin-sized amount to damp hair in sections for soft, defined curls and coils with light hold.
  5. 5Store in the fridge for up to 7 days. If it smells off, make a fresh batch.
Wash day saver

Pre-wash detangling soak

  1. 1Mix 2 Tbsp olive oil with 1 cup water in a spray bottle.
  2. 2Section hair into 4 parts, spritz generously and finger-detangle each section.
  3. 3Leave for 10 minutes, then wash with Quicurl Hydrating Shampoo.
  4. 4Detangling is gentler, with fewer tears and less breakage.
Optional extras

Affordable SA oils for extras

  1. 1Olive oil (Checkers, Pick n Pay). Easy to find and budget friendly. Warm a small amount between your palms for a relaxing scalp massage, or use it in the pre-wash detangling soak above.
  2. 2Coconut oil (Dis-Chem, Clicks). Solid at room temperature, melts on contact. Lovely as a 30-minute pre-wash treatment on the lengths. Skip on very fine hair as it can feel heavy.
  3. 3Castor oil (Clicks, Takealot). Thick and rich. A pea-sized drop massaged into the scalp supports circulation and helps soothe dry patches. A little goes a long way.
  4. 4Sweet almond oil (Dis-Chem). Lightweight and absorbs quickly. A gentle option for kids with sensitive or eczema-prone skin and great for relaxing bedtime scalp rubs.

Always patch-test homemade recipes on a small section of your child's skin before applying fully.
